Psychotherapy for
Individuals and Couples
I am a clinical social worker licensed in Maryland (LCSW-C), Virginia (LCSW), and Washington, DC (LICSW).
My Master's degree in Social Work is from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I was inducted into
the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and was awarded the Helen Pinkus Award for outstanding clinical students.
Prior to opening my private practice, I worked at The Women’s Center, a nonprofit organization serving women and families.
Since receiving my Master's degree, I have pursued further training, especially in the following areas:
- Trauma treatment -
I trained at the Instituute for Advanced Psychotherapy and Training,
earning an Advanced Trauma Certificate, and I currently study
with Janina Fisher, one of the preeminent trauma therapy trainers
in the world.
- Couples/relationship therapy -
I have extensive training in an approach called Emotionally Focused
Couples Therapy (EFT), which focuses on the lifelong needs we have
for close, secure
and nurturing relationships, especially with our
significant other. I have additional training in interpersonal communication
that I find helpful for relationships of all kinds.
- Mindfulness, energy and body-oriented techniques -
I find that using techniques such as Emotional Freedom Technique (also
called Tapping) can help us move through stuck places and get to deeper
work more quickly, and can also help us shift beliefs and cognitive
schemas that hold us back from living a full life of contentment
and confidence.
My professional memberships include the Greater Washington Society of
Clinical Social Workers (serving as President from 2012
to 2014, and as Co-Director of Communications since then), the National
Association of Social Workers, and the International Centre for Excellence
in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
In addition to my work in private practice, I served for two years as a
Faculty Field Liaison for Virginia Commonwealth University, overseeing
and providing guidance to graduate students in their internship training.
I have also participated as a volunteer therapist in the Pro Bono Counseling
Project, as well as in the Give-An-Hour program, providing therapeutic services
to members of our military services and their families.
My undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland is in music and I spent the early part of my adult life as
a pianist and singer. My work as a psychotherapist is influenced by my prior trainings
both in music and in therapeutic bodywork.
