Psychotherapy for
Individuals and Couples
Psychotherapy provides a safe environment and relationship in which a person can work to cope better with and
gain greater insight into a wide range of problems. The goals for therapy can encompass providing relief of
symptoms, fostering personal growth, increasing coping skills, achieving greater clarity about your life, and
developing greater insight into and understanding of yourself.
Problems or issues that are appropriate for psychotherapy can show up in a number of ways.
- You may feel stuck in one or more areas of your life, such as work or relationships.
- You may feel worried much of the time, or plagued with self-doubt.
- You may find yourself struggling to get through life, feeling pulled down or in a fog.
- You may know of something in your past that has deeply affected you and is keeping you from moving on with your life.
Or you might be in a relationship or marriage that has become disconnected or antagonistic –-
either in general or around a specific issue -- and you want to find a way into being connected, close and intimate.
These are all situations that can cause stress and prevent you from
living a full, productive, and satisfying life – and are all situations that lead people to seek psychotherapy.
So, if you are wanting to feel better in your life – more secure, less worried, clearer, and less burdened –
then you may want to pursue psychotherapy as a tool to help you achieve your goals.
In choosing a psychotherapist, it is important to find someone that you feel is professionally
competent and someone with whom you feel comfortable and emotionally safe. I encourage clients to use the first
couple of sessions to assess their comfort level and for us both to assess whether we are a good fit for proceeding
on the therapeutic journey together.
